The most common form of Soffit found on homes, is seen in the areas where the roof extends past the exterior walls and causes an overhang. Soffit is what covers the underside of this overhang. Typically Soffit is made from aluminum panels but can also come in many different specialty forms. These aluminum panels are usually covered in small holes. These small holes play a vital role in the ventilation of the attic and allow air to pass through and circulate. Circulation like this is critical to regulate temperature and avoid too much humidity that can result in mold and also to release any odors or gasses that may get trapped up there.
Fascia is what covers and protects the horizontal board that runs along the base of the roof connecting your trusses together. This protection is vital to avoid damages such as water, or sun damage that causes the board underneath to rot. It is important to inspect this cover at least once a year. Fascia is also what your rain gutters are attached to. If your rain gutter is falling off of your home, usually the Fascia is damaged or loose and you should get it repaired immediately.
